The best moss garden in Kyoto

I went to Arashiyama (west part of Kyoto city) to visit GIO-JI Temple (祇王寺） for journal Kyoto French issue.

One small rustic house is built in a beautiful moss garden. I think this garden is more beautiful and fresh than Saiho-ji Temple called Moss garden. I recommend you to go there now in this rainy season. The moss is freshly swelled up, and its green is amazingly beautiful. The garden was so fragrant with a wet grass after raining.

Gio-ji Temple is famous for the sad story of one woman named Gio in the Kamakura era. She broke her love with Taira-no-kiyomori who was a famous general, and retired here with her mother and sister. Now, this temple is belonging to Daikaku-ji Temple, Shingon Buddhist sect. You can come here on foot through a famous bamboo forest. It takes about 15 minutes from Arashiyama Stn. of Randen line or JR Saga-Arashiyama Stn. It's a nice path in the beginning of summer.

ジャーナルキョウトの仏語版の取材で嵯峨にある祇王寺に行ってきました。いい、いいと聞いていましたが、百聞は一見にしかず！美しい苔のお庭に本当に感動しました。嵐山はちょっと遠いので、そう頻繁には来ませんが、小倉山のこの辺りは、さすが昔の人達が和歌を詠んだはずだ！と納得するほどの美しさと憂いを帯びた場所です。そういえば、英語俳句の先生のStephen さんもこの辺りに住んでいました。。和歌や俳句が自然と生まれてくるのでしょう。梅雨の今頃が苔が雨でぬれて生き生きとして、訪れるのにいい時期だと思います。駅から竹林を抜けて歩いてくる途中も気持ちがいい。おススメです！

Japanese garden in Paris

This is a Japanese garden in Paris which my French friend's brother made by himself.

It is almost a real Japanese one, I think. When I went to the Chelsea Flower Show in London about 10 years ago, the displayed some "Japanese garden" are actually, to tell the truth, completely different from the real one. They designed symmetry, used the red colored materials which were generally shown in China.

Japanese garden in Europe is supposed to have been improved and developed. I heard that the professional Japanese gardeners go to Europe to make a Japanese garden by the request of some big companies or hotels in Europe. They are happy to do to spread an exterior culture of Japan.

My friend's brother made a rotenburo outdoor bath in his Japanese garden.

Wao.. he is great! This rotenburo is like a small bath of Kurama onsen in Kyoto!

Japanese otaku such like him is called "Tatamise" in Paris.

I don't think Japanese garden is the best of all the world. I really like a mixed typed garden, Europe and Japanese. The Japanese furniture in the English garden looks cool, and the scene the Western and Japanese plants line is so exotic. I am still a private gardener in my tiny veranda garden, but I want to spend a whole day as both a professional and private gardener...it's my dream...

上の写真は、フランス人の友人アレックスのお兄さんがパリ近郊の自宅につくった日本庭園です。すべて自分でこつこつとつくった、というからいやいや驚き。。かなり日本庭園に近いですね。約10年前に見に行った、ロンドンのチェルシーフラワーショーでのあまりに中華風な日本庭園に比べると、ものすごくシックで美しい。日本庭園、日本文化の真髄がヨーロッパ諸外国に浸透していってますね。嬉しいです。

実は造園家、ガーデンデザイナーになりたくて、勉強してた時期があります。日本庭園は美しいなーとはもちろん思っていましたが、最も好きな庭のスタイルは、自然のあるべき姿に最も近づけて創り込む、というイングリッシュガーデンでした、今でも大好きだけど。日本のクールデザインを見て育った日本人が、日本の一般住宅の庭に創る英国風ガーデンは、これまた知恵が加わり素敵です。経済的理由で！小さなベランダガーデンしか持っていない私は、かつて、京都御所のはしっこのスペースに植物やら野菜やらを植えて京都市の清掃の人達に根こそぎ刈られた苦い経験があります。それにこりずにゲリラガーデニング的な事をちょこっとやったりしています。

将来は、一日中植物に関わり、植物に囲まれて仕事したりしたい、、これが私の夢かもしれません。

NOH Recital

This is the noh recital information which one customer of c.coquet informed me.

The recital will be performed by non-Japanese performers who belong to Udaka Michishige Kongo school. It would be a nice time at the air-conditioned Kongo Noh Theater on June 12 Saturday (1:00pm~5:00pm). It's free of charge.
